1Secure: Investigation Refinement
How I enhanced user engagement and fostered team collaboration in redesigning Netwrix 1Secure's Investigation feature
Transforming a key feature without prior design input was challenging, yet crucial. I stepped in to elevate the Investigation function of Netwrix 1Secure, making it more visually appealing. This project not only improved user interaction but also marked my successful collaboration with a team relatively new to working with designers.

About Product and Feature

Netwrix 1Secure is a SaaS solution designed for MSP companies, streamlining IT audits with precision. A key aspect of the platform is its Investigation function, which plays a central role in user engagement. Initially implemented without designer input, the Investigation feature required a visual and functional overhaul after real-world testing. A designer was brought on board to enhance its functionality and aesthetics.

Gathering Insights
My initial step was to grasp the purpose and usage of the Investigation feature. To accomplish this, I engaged in a discussion with the product manager to outline the core objectives.

Next, I explored a similar feature in a neighboring company's product, aiming to uncover existing strengths and weaknesses. Conversations with the manager and tech support team highlighted crucial points worth keeping in mind.
UX Review
Moving forward, I conducted an evaluation of the implemented Investigation functionality, revealing a few additional issues. Some examples include illogical filter linking, insufficient time range selection options, missing feedback on data export, lack of distinction between user and system reports, and the details window partially overlapping the table.

Creating Mockups
Leveraging the Design System and Figma's component library, I crafted the initial mockups for the solution.
Mockups Grooming and Specification
Collaborating with the product team, we identified cost-effective enhancements feasible during page styling updates. Remaining improvements were categorized for future implementation.

Following this, I consolidated the agreed-upon aspects into the mockups, provided developers with detailed descriptions, and handed the project over to the team.

Collaboration & Exceeded Expectations

This task is pivotal as it marked my debut collaboration with a team unaccustomed to designers. The previous designer faced discrepancies between development and original designs due to the team's reliance on inflexible, self-made components. Understanding this, I approached the task adhering to available resources and provided detailed specifications to accommodate the team limited experience with designers.

This approach garnered team appreciation and remarkably exceeded expectations – the design was nearly replicated in the first iteration. To me, this stands as a small victory!

What's next

Given the significance of this functionality across various company products, I proposed a team effort to comprehensively explore and refine the user experience. This task is now part of our design backlog, and we're eagerly anticipating diving into it.
